Yes, the website was down for a few weeks. Several people thought this
meant that Mobtown had packed up stakes and gone home; nothing could be
further from the truth.
The truth is the webmaster had his credit card number stolen in January; no
big deal - the credit card company noticed the fraudulent charges (all
$3.00), closed the account, and reissued him a new number and he managed to
get everything switched over in time to go to London.
Then sometime in March, he was alerted to another fraudulent charge -
this time $300 for a telecommunications outfit in England. Again,
credit card company great, noticed the charge, closed the account, and
reissued a new card.
Only this time, our intrepid hero was not so good about getting all of his
accounts - most notably the hosting accounts - hooked up to this third
credit card. He was alerted that the charges for one of his accounts
hadn't processed because of the credit card problem, but was never alerted
for the Mobtown account, and didn't put two and two together.
At the end of March, when the hosting company tried to process on the closed
card... Well, you know what happened. The account was scheduled for
closure due to lack of payment ... no notification. The account was
closed sometime in May for non-payment. And then it came to light.
He tried to reinstate the account, something that looked like a simple
enough automated procedure. But after waiting a week, nothing had
processed. So he submitted a help ticket, tried to reissue payment,
and waited another week. No answer to his help ticket, no
activation.... So he tried one last time, and sat on the chat line for
30 minutes waiting for support to answer. Eventually, something
clicked. The payment went through, the account became reactivated, and
for the past day we've been waiting for the DNS servers to catch up with our
info.
So, there you have it.....
